One of Many Songs I Appreciate

By: Suzen Richardson – Propel Braddock Hills

The song, Can You Feel my Heart by Bring Me the Horizon may sound like noise to some at first, but to others this is not the case. Lyrics such as, “I’m scared to get close, I hate being alone” and “I can’t drown my demons, they know how to swim” are just two examples of the struggles that some of the band members have gone through, but teens can relate to as well. For example, “I can’t drown my demons, they know how to swim” is painting a picture of something they have tried to overcome and whatever is stopping them is immune to their attempts to get around it. For many it could be depression, anxiety, something happening at home, bullying, sexuality, school, etc.

I love this song so much because of all the quotes and how so many people can relate to it. Sometimes teens can feel so lost, confused, scared, and alone because of what they are going through. The feeling of nobody understanding you and not seeing the world as everyone else sees it can be hard.  A song like this really gives listeners something to hold on to; it can make them feel like somebody understands what’s going on. I personally fell in love with the song because of the lyrics and how Oliver sings them. He puts so much emotion into every one of his songs. Oliver expresses his beliefs and feels with every part of his being (by screaming, if you want to be technical).  Can You Feel My Heart is one of many songs that I love and appreciate and I wanted to share why it’s one of my favorites.
