I was originally prompted to join Pittsburgh Youth Media by my older sister Maura, a PYM veteran and experienced writer. At first, I was reluctant to apply because I feared living in my sister’s shadow. However, the more I thought about it, I realized that PYM would be the perfect place for me to find my own voice and share my own interests with the world, setting me apart from my sister instead of standing in her shadow.  I decided to join, and I am psyched to experience local Pittsburgh events and interview locals to gain a new perspective on the world and my community while sharing these moments with Youth Express. Some things I  love are volunteering (at Pittsburgh Cares, the Heinz History Center, etc.), history, my cat named Mr. Darcy, and of course writing!

Erin Sheedy is an 11^th grader at Oakland Catholic High School and lives in Crafton. This is her first time reporting, but she is very excited to write for PYM. In her free time, she works at Hieber’s Pharmacy, volunteers, and plays lacrosse for her school.
