    Fetterman Wrap-Up

Maura Sheedy 1 By Maura Sheedy – 12th Grade, Oakland Catholic High School As a soon-to-be-eighteen-year-old, the day in which I will be nationally recognized as a legal United States citizen is rapidly approaching.  With this status, I will be taking up the responsibility to vote for the legendary presidential election, but also for the overlooked state and local government.  However, unlike most of my peers, I have had the privilege to personally speak and question someone on the Pennsylvania senate ballot. A Tasty Task

Emma Paulini By Emma Paulini – 11th Grade, Fox Chapel Area High School What do you think of these vegetables?  Would you eat them?  In the Summer of 2014, a major supermarket in France called Intermarche successfully campaigned for food salvaging, creating a program that reduced food waste by creating a special aisle for the “inglorious fruits and vegetables” that would normally be thrown out. Food for Thought

Grace DoerflerBy Grace Doerfler - 10th Grade, Oakland Catholic High School Like a lot of people, I often don’t think much about the unfinished scraps of food on my plate at the end of a meal.  Most of the time, I have no second thoughts about rinsing a bite of burger or a couple leaves of lettuce down the drain.  However, when I read the statistic that between 160 and 295 billion pounds of food are thrown away annually, I was completely staggered.   Read more [...]

    In a Day

A Memoir on My Thanksgiving Experience

Maura Sheedy 1 By Maura Sheedy – 12th Grade, Oakland Catholic High School I’ve always liked Thanksgiving.  It’s the prelude to the Christmas season an emblem of fall.  It’s fun to share a good meal with even better people as well.  Unlike most families, my family rarely does the same thing each Thanksgiving, but that does not make the holiday any less exciting. The Unthankful Giving

Stephanie Wang 2 By Stephanie Wang – 11th Grade, Peters Township High School There's nothing wrong with the holiday of Thanksgiving.  You see your relatives, consider what you're thankful about, and then you gouge yourself in turkey and stuffing. Read more [...]

    The Defenders of Freedom

IMG_2473 By Jared Weber - 12th Grade, Central Catholic High School Walking into Soldiers and Sailors memorial, I didn’t know what to expect.  I had preconceptions that the crowd would be mostly young adults interested in what a peer, Alexis Werner, had accomplished.  I was greeted by a much different but more impactful scene.
